Bradford County Public Lyme Disease Awareness
Program - April 5th
Many thanks to Jim & Casey Crawford who organized this event.
Please forward their message to anyone you believe would be interested.
“A Hope 4 Lyme”, an organization of concerned individuals announces a community
awareness and information program to be held at the Northeast Bradford
Elementary School auditorium, 526 Panther Lane, Rome PA 18837, on Saturday,
April 5, 2014, from 9:30 AM until 1 PM. The mission of A Hope 4 Lyme is to help
relieve those suffering from and distressed by the effects of Lyme and other
tick-borne diseases and promote community awareness. The program will consist of
four speakers, exhibits, and a panel discussion.
The first speaker is Jacquelyn A. Hakim, who is the former director of the
Monroe County Vector Control office and now co-owns Pocono Tick and Skeeter
Control, LLC. She is a popular speaker at National Conferences, has served on
state boards, interstate associations and has participated in National
publishing projects on mosquito issues. She will address the common vectors
involved in Lyme transmission and will be available to answer questions.
The second speaker is Tiffany Repsher L.M.T, who is the owner of LeRaysville
Naturopathic Wellness Center. Her husband has Lyme and she has an extended
practice of Lyme clients. She will explain essential oils and their use plus
ways to de-tox the body.
Mary Theresa Jurnack, operator of “Jurnack’s,Naturally!”, will address building
the immune system with the use of herbs, vitamins, and other natural products.
She has recently completed coursework to become a Traditional Doctor of
Naturopathy.
The final speaker will be Dr. Clarence Mast, MD and Lyme Literate Physician. Dr.
Mast’s entire practice focuses on Lyme and other tick-borne disease patients. He
is a member of ILADS which is the International Lyme and Associated Diseases
Society and will be attending their next conference the following week in
Hershey, PA. He has attended other sessions in the past.
Several exhibits are planned including ways to detect tick presence and methods
to reduce the incidence of Lyme surrounding your home. An idea sharing table for
recipes will be available and a panel discussion of Lyme patients will follow
the presentation. There is no cost for the program however donations will be
accepted to cover expenses. Sponsors are being sought to underwrite speaker
fees. Any proceeds exceeding expense will be placed into a fund for gas cards
which Lyme patients may apply for to travel to medical appointments.
Jim and Casey Crawford, a father-son team, are organizing the program and are
Bradford County representatives to “A Hope 4 Lyme”, and they can be searched at
www.ahope4lyme.org. Jim states that “three generations of Crawford’s are
battling Lyme and other co-infections. Unfortunately, there has been a dramatic
increase of infection in this area. People need to know how to protect
themselves if they aren’t infected, and how to seek treatment if they are. If
you wish to volunteer to help at the program, to help underwrite expenses, or if
you need information, you may call 570-744-2542.
